The presence, location, range, and degree of water leakage were detected by putting the tip of a metal rod called a ‘listening stick’ against an object (water pipe, fittings etc.) and listening to the amplified sound by resonating the transmitted vibration.
This technology is still widely used, but it requires a high level of skill and experience.
In addition to high technical requirements, noise such as the sound of vehicles passing by and the barking of animals makes leak investigation more difficult.
To solve this problem, Fuji Tecom developed ‘Digital Leak Noise Reduction Water Leak Detector (Model: DNR-18)’.
- The digital filter removes noise that interferes with the investigation, such as the sound of vehicles passing by and the sounds of animals (this technology is patented).
- The minimum level value of water leakage sound can be recorded up to 250 points in the built-in memory of the main body, and the survey results can be saved and attached to the report very easily.
- The leak sound of leak point is visualized on the LCD of the main unit by graphing the leak sound.
DNR-18, equipped with a noise removal function, visualization of leak points by graphing sound level function and other useful functions, is supported by a wide range of people from beginners to veterans, and is currently being adopted by more than 400 organization including local government and private companies in Japan.
The case of town A in Hokkaido ～Leakage found even in the first survey by adopting DNR-18～
The town A’s local government started a leak investigation under direct management, and took this opportunity to adopt DNR-18.
Town A is operating a facility with a water supply population of less than 3,000, and it has been a problem because there are places where it seems that water is leaking, including inside the house. After the introduction of DNR-18, investigations are being carried out preferentially from such places.
Regarding the operation of the device that they were worried about, "We have just introduced it, but the operation is very easy and helpful. Even when we do not know if it is a water leak sound or not, the level value is displayed on the device as a graph, so we can find the leakage point. (Interview with the person in charge) ".
They detected a leak immediately after the introduction of DNR-18, and from the following month, the water leak has been reduced 10 tons / day in Town A.
Town A local government is now planning to promote leak investigation and renewal of old pipelines with DNR-18, and promote maintenance from the viewpoint of preventive maintenance including accident prevention.
